1998, History and other events
This was a year of contrasts, with an excursion into operetta with inadequate orchestra parts, and then glorious performances of Mozart's most beautiful Mass. This was Ian Lowe's last show as conductor of the orchestra. The Eltham Community Orchestra did not perform oratorio with us from 1998 on, having done so from 1986. We donated $4000 to charity, $59,400 up to now.
Lesley Walton took rehearsals for Christmas Carols that year and introduced the group to a version of "The First Noel" to "Pachelbel's Canon", which has become a favourite. We performed at the Anglican Church in Templestowe and finished up later that week with carols at the park in Grassy Flat Road in Diamond Creek, with supper at Judith's to follow.
