1996, Mendelssohn's Elijah (with audio files)
Nancy Cornwallis started rehearsals for the choruses in Elijah before Die Fledermaus had finished, for those not involved with the stage show. This was a very welcome event. Whilst many of the choristers had enjoyed the challenge of learning an unknown work (The Last Judgement by Spohr), Elijah is such a well-loved oratorio that there were many enthusiastic singers ready to go! There were plenty of soloists wanting to audition, and Steven Touzel and Graham Ford got to share the title role ion different performances, while new soprano Colleen Arnott impressed the panel.
These history notes have been kindly provided by our long-term artistic director and co-founder, Graham Ford.
Audio files provided by Graham Ford. Soloists named before the title. The accompaniment is by is The Eltham Community Orchestra conducted by Ian Lowe.
